CT-1010 Countertop Reverse Osmosis System
The APEX 4-Stage Countertop Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System combines all the benefits of a reverse osmosis filtration system into an easy to install countertop design. The filtration process starts by passing water through a 5-micron polypropylene prefilter cartridge. The prefilter cartridge captures particulate matter, like rust, silt and even insect parts, which find their way into the water supply. The prefilter also prevents the filtration system from clogging with this fine debris. Next, the water flows through an in-line granular activated carbon (GAC) filter. The granular activated carbon filter removes tastes and odors caused by chlorine and chloramine disinfection chemicals. Chlorinated water is a health hazard because the disinfection process can cause the formation of carcinogenic by-products called trihalomethanes (THMs). Even if you have unchlorinated well water, natural taste and odor causing substances (geosmin and MIB) can make the water undrinkable. Both well water and municipal water have been found to be contaminated with pharmaceuticals, herbicides, insecticides and industrial chemicals. All of these contaminants are removed by the in-line activated carbon filter.
The water is passed through a spiral-wound thin film composite (TFC) membrane. Salts, dissolved solids, nitrate and heavy metals like cadmium and lead are removed while purified water passes through the membrane. The RO process even removes parasite cysts (Cryptosporidium and Giardia) that contaminate water and cause health problems. The water then flows through a post-filter containing granular activated carbon. This in-line polishing filter removes any traces of tastes, odors or gasses.
