Troubleshooting Reverse Osmosis Systems

Low water flow from the RO faucet

  • Clogged prefilter –Replace the filter and follow the recommended the replacement schedule
  • Clogged post filter – Replace the filter and follow the recommended the replacement schedule
  • Low air pressure in storage tank – Add air and pressurize the water tank to 5-7 psi
  • Fouled RO membrane – Replace RO membrane and follow the recommended replacement schedule
  • Incoming water pressure too low – Install an RO booster pump to bring the pressure up to specified psi.
  • If filter system is brand new, call APEX for customer support

No water flow from the RO faucet

  • Water supply is turned off – Turn on the water supply
  • Valve on storage tank closed – Open the storage tank valve
  • Plastic water line crimped – Check the hose routing for crimps and sharp bends
  • Storage tank under or over-pressurized - Pressurize the water tank to 5-7 psi
  • Clogged prefilter –Replace filter and follow the recommended replacement schedule
  • RO membrane clogged - Replace RO membrane and follow the recommended replacement schedule
  • Check valve or restrictor clogged – Replace the damaged components with APEX parts.

Leaking filter housing

  • O-ring is not seated properly – Check O-ring, replace it if cut, frayed or stretched
  • Housing is not tightened – Make sure the filter housing if fully tight
  • Use O-ring lubricant to seal and lubricate the filter housing
  • Filter housing is damaged – Replace with a genuine APEX filter housing

Leaking RO membrane housing

  • O-ring is not seated properly - Check O-ring, replace it if cut, frayed or stretched
  • Housing cap is not tight - Make sure the filter housing if fully tight
  • Use O-ring lubricant to seal and lubricate the filter housing
  • Check for cracks in housing – Replace with a genuine APEX RO housing

Bad odor or tastes

  • Filter cartridges are exhausted – Replace with new cartridges and follow the recommended replacement schedule
  • Filter systems needs to be sanitized – Call APEX for service
  • Damaged or old RO membrane – Replace RO membrane and follow the recommended replacement schedule
  • Water is stagnant in storage tank – Empty storage tank and refill with fresh filtered water

Ice cubes are cloudy

  • Air in the filter system – It will clear up by itself as water flushes the system
  • Rapid freezing traps air bubbles – this is normal for home freezers and ice makers

Leaks around fittings

  • Plastic tubing is not inserted fully – Push the tube all the way into the fitting
  • Threaded fitting improperly installed – Wrap a layer of plumber’s tape on threads and reinstall
  • Damaged fitting - Replace usingAPEX parts

RO filter system runs continuously

  • Heavy water use – This is normal when the RO system is replenishing the water storage tank
  • Automatic shut-off valve damaged - Replace with APEX parts
